Aditi is one of the students in the current 3IB who has taken on a diverse subject combination with Chemistry HL, English A HL, Norwegian B HL, Physics SL, Math AA SL, and Psychology SL. When asked about her favorite subject, she chose Chemistry, explaining that she enjoys the mix of understanding, memorization and application the subject requires. Additionally, she shared that “it’s fascinating to learn about, because it explains how the natural world works”.
Despite having chemistry as her favorite subject, she is planning her future in a different direction, towards law. She is planning to study international and European law at the University of Groningen. As IB students planning our futures, we have to carefully consider subject choices and extracurriculars to ensure that our options remain open. As for Aditi, she had a clear plan and made sure that throughout her years at Nesbru VGS, her extracurriculars were oriented towards politics and international relations. “I was involved in MUN in both a participative and administrative capacity for all three years. I also take both Norwegian and English at higher level which is useful for improving writing and analytical skills,” she adds, emphasising that even though the course you want to take at university doesn’t have specific subject requirements, you can be tactical in choosing your subjects to make sure you are as well off as possible when starting university.
When asked about what she felt has been the best thing about doing the IB at Nesbru, she answered, “The support from the teachers. They really prioritize our learning and go the extra mile to help us understand things by remaining accessible to us online and taking extra time out of their day to meet for homework help, or even to plan out schoolwork and studying so we aren’t as stressed”. She also adds that “The class environment here is also very accommodating and relaxed, so it’s easy to feel at home” Lastly we asked her, as a wise IB student, if she had any tips for new IB students to which she responded with several good tips. She said to plan ahead and refrain from procrastinating, “the IB is a challenging program that requires good time management to make sure you don’t get overwhelmed”: She also told us that “reviewing material either before or as soon as it’s covered makes it much easier to follow along in lessons and ultimately produces better results”
